What we believe about Worship

Covenant Presbyterian Church considers the worship of God the most important aspect of church life. There is no church without the corporate worship of God. Eliminate the public worship of God, and you have eliminated the church. Not only is worship crucial to the life of the church, but it also reveals our appreciation of the God we serve. We bow before the terror of holiness. In reverence and fear, we worship the Lord only as He has instructed us. The benchmark for worship is not those elements that we find comfortable or entertaining. We do not worship God merely by our own devices. Rather, we govern our worship according to the instructions the Lord has given to us in the Bible. For example, while drama may provide a unique media for conveying truth, the Bible does not permit dramatic forms in the public worship of our Lord. Only those elements and methods dictated by scripture may be included in our public, corporate worship of our Lord. Since the Bible dominates our lives, it also dominates our worship. We read the Bible, preach the Bible, pray the Bible, sing the Bible, and see the Bible in the sacraments.
